Laser Periodontal Therapy
LASER PERIODONTAL THERAPY
Has your dentist diagnosed you as having periodontal disease or gum disease? This is a disease of the supporting gum and bone structure of your teeth. The major reason for tooth loss prior to age 30 is decay, after age 30 more teeth are lost to gum disease than decay. It is estimated that over 80 percent of adults have some form of gum disease.
HOW ARE LASERS USED TO TREAT GUM DISEASE?
We use lasers to attack periodontal inflammation at the microscopic level of infection. The power of it’s focused light destroys otherwise inaccessible bacterial colonies while simultaneously creating an ideal environment for healing.
Depending on the stage of your disease we may recommend conservative non surgical treatment. Following scaling and root planing to remove the physical irritants, the hygienist will go around each pocket with the laser. The laser will kill the bacteria that cause gum disease and promote healing of your gums around the teeth.
WHAT ABOUT PAIN?
One of the biggest advantages of laser therapy is that many times procedures can be performed with much less discomfort and postoperative pain than with conventional methods. This is due to the laser’s ability to seal off nerve endings and blood vessels and only targets the diseased tissue.
